Założeniem kształcenia i rozwoju Państwowej Medycznej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Opolu, która powstała w 2003r. jest nauczanie zgodne z wytycznymi Unii Europejskiej, nawiązywanie kontaktów z zagranicznymi ośrodkami edukacyjno-klinicznymi oraz międzynarodowa wymiana doświadczeń studentów i kadry naukowo-dydaktycznej.
Uczelnia oferuje kształcenie na poziomie licencjatu w ramach studiów dziennych i zaocznych, a także kształcenie podyplomowe w ramach kursów kwalifikacyjnych i dokształcających oraz szkoleń specjalistycznych prowadzonych przez Instytuty: Pielęgniarstwa, Położnictwa, Fizjoterapii i Zdrowia Publicznego.
Już w roku akademickim 2004/2005 miały miejsce pierwsze wizyty przedstawicieli naszej Uczelni w Klinikum Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH, przygotowujące wyjazdy studyjne kadry dydaktyczno-naukowej i studentów, nawiązano wówczas współpracę z Wyższą Szkołą Zawodową w Wilnie. W 2006r. przedstawiciele PMWSZ w Opolu wizytowali szkołę pielęgniarską w Ołomuńcu w Republice Czeskiej. Ze szczególnym uznaniem czeskich partnerów spotkały się zaprezentowane wówczas doświadczenia naszej Uczelni w zakresie wprowadzania ogólnoeuropejskich standardów nauczania. W 2006r. miała miejsce także rewizyta przedstawicieli szkoły z Ołomuńca w Opolu oraz początek kontaktów przedstawiciele Szkoły Pielęgniarskiej z Kowna na Litwie. W kolejnych latach PMWSZ w Opolu nawiązała kontakty z Southampton General Hospital (Wielka Brytania), a także Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität w Greifswaldzie (Niemcy) i Vrije Universiteit w Brukseli (Belgia), a w roku 2010 z Jefferson College i Medical School w Roanoke (Virginia, USA). System studiów w PMWSZ w Opolu podlega głębokim przekształceniom zgodnie z kierunkami określonymi przez Proces Boloński.
Celem statutowym uczelni jest wzrastająca liczba wyjeżdżających studentów (w tym zapewnienie, aby znaczący procent studentów miał możliwość studiowania za granicą przynajmniej przez jeden semestr) oraz wykładowców, a także udział w międzynarodowych projektach - co niezwykle ułatwi udział w Programie Erasmus. Władze PMWSZ w Opolu zadecydowały o alokacji środków finansowych przeznaczonych na dodatkowe granty ułatwiające współprace międzynarodową. Szkoła będzie wspierać także plany tworzenia europejskich dydaktycznych sieci tematycznych, których stworzenie jest planowane w oparciu o własną kadrę dydaktyczną, uczestniczącą w programie Erasmus oraz nauczycieli Uczelni Partnerskich. Uczelnia chciałaby uczestniczyć w rozszerzonym Programie Erasmusa uważając, że połączenie okresu studiów wraz z praktykami zawodowymi w znacznym stopniu przygotowuje studentów do ich przyszłej pracy zawodowej nie tylko w Polsce, ale również w krajach Unii Europejskiej.
Ustalono zasady realizacji programu studiów realizowanych w ramach projektów międzynarodowych co w znacznym stopniu ułatwia studentom uzyskanie zaliczenia odbytego okresu studiów i stanowi dodatkową zachętę w ubieganiu się o wyjazdy w ramach programów wymiany międzynarodowej.
Praktyki zawodowe studentów PMWSZ w Opolu są planowane w zależności od specjalności studiów (zgodnie z założeniami programowymi), w zgodzie z potrzebami i zainteresowaniami studentów oraz możliwościami i potrzebami organizacji przyjmujących. Po zakończeniu praktyki student zobowiązany jest do złożenia raportu z odbytego stażu, który zawiera informacje o korzyściach jakie student odniósł podczas praktyki, trudnościach oraz ogólną ocenę pobytu za granicą, a także ocenę pracy i osoby praktykanta dokonaną przez przedstawiciela instytucji przyjmującej wraz z potwierdzeniem wykonanych zadań. Dodatkowo studenci przygotowują sprawozdania o pobycie za granicą, które publikowane są na stronach internetowych PMWSZ w Opolu a także w Kwartalniku „Puls Uczelni”.
W przypadku, gdy instytutowy program studiów przewiduje obowiązkowe odbycie praktyk, wówczas wyjazd na staż zagraniczny (wypełniający założenia programowe) zostaje uznany za zrealizowaną część programu studiów. W przeciwnym wypadku praktyki zagraniczne są traktowane jako indywidualne osiągnięcie studenta, a informacja o tym zawarta zostaje w suplemencie do dyplomu.
Monitorowaniem merytorycznego przebiegu praktyki studenta zagranicznego w PMWSZ w Opolu zajmuje się osoba wyznaczona przez Dyrektora Instytutu. Nad prawidłowością przebiegu praktyki czuwa także osoba odpowiedzialna za organizowanie praktyk studenckich z ramienia Działu Współpracy Międzynarodowej PMWSZ w Opolu.
The educational and development policy of Public Higher Medical Professional School in Opole, founded in 2003, is to provide education in line with EU standards, establish and maintain contact with foreign education and clinical centres and organize international exchange of students’ and academic and didactic staff experiences. The school offers bachelor’s degree within day and extramural studies as well as postgraduate education within the framework of continuing education, qualification courses and specialist trainings run by the following institutes: Nursing, Obstetrics, Physiotherapy and Public Health.
Already in the academic year 2004/2005, the representatives of our School first visited Klinikum Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH to prepare study trips for the academic and didactic staff and students and, also at that time, cooperation with Higher Professional School in Vilnius was initiated. In 2006, the representatives of Public Higher Medical Professional School in Opole visited a nursing school in Olomouc in the Czech Republic. The experience in implementing European educational standards that our School presented was greatly appreciated by our Czech partners. In the same year, the representatives of the school from Olomouc revisited us in Opole and we also initiated cooperation with Nursing School from Kaunas, Lithuania. In the following years, our School established contacts with Southampton General Hospital (Great Britain), Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität in Greifswald (Germany), Vrije Universiteit in Brussels (Belgium) and in 2010 with Jefferson College and Medical School w Roanoke (Virginia, USA).
The study system undergoes considerable changes following the directions determined by Bologna Process. The core aim of the School is to increase the number of outgoing students (and to make sure that a significant number of students have the opportunity to study abroad for at least one semester) and outgoing lecturers as well as to participate in international projects – which would greatly facilitate participation in Erasmus Program. The authorities of our School in Opole made the decision to allocate the financial resources for additional grants which will help streamline international cooperation. The School is also going to support the plans to create European thematic didactic networks basing on our own didactic staff participating in Erasmus Program and the teachers of Partner Schools. The School would also like to take part in extended Erasmus Program due to the fact that, to a large extent, the combination of study time and professional practice prepares students for their future profession not only in Poland but also in other EU countries.
Implementation of curriculum of studies within the framework of international projects was agreed and determined which helps students get credit for the completed period of study and is an additional incentive to apply for placement within international exchange programs.
Placement of students of Public Higher Medical Professional School in Opole is planned depending on the specialization of the study (in line with curriculum) and taking into account students’ needs and interests as well as the possibilities of organizations which accept the students. Once the placement is over, the student is obliged to submit a report setting forth the benefits that the student acquired in the course of the placement, difficulties s/he faced and an overall evaluation of the stay abroad as well as present evaluation of the work done by the trainee and the person of the trainee made by a representative of the organization accepting the student together with the acknowledgement of completed tasks. In addition, students prepare reports after their stay abroad which are later published on our websites and in our quarterly “Puls Uczelni”.
In the event our institute curriculum provides for obligatory placement, the student’s stay abroad (in line with curriculum) is deemed to be a completed part of curriculum of the studies. In other cases, placement abroad is treated as a student’s individual achievement and information about is included in the diploma supplement.
Monitoring of the placement of foreign students is carried out in Public Higher Medical Professional School in Opole by a person appointed by the Director of the Institute. Proper progress of the placement is also monitored by a person in charge of student placements from the Department of International Cooperation in Public Higher Medical Professional School in Opole.
